Glossary
Maximum individual dose
The maximum individual dose refers to the upper dose limit for a certain indication.
A maximum individual dose expressed in e.g. mg/dose is the highest single dose in milligram which may not be exceeded, even if a higher dose is calculated on weight basis. It may only be used when it is reached or exceeded by a calculation on body weight basis.
In contrast, a maximum individual dose expressed in e.g. mg/kg/dose refers to the highest single dose per kilogram bodyweight.
Maximum daily dose
The max. daily dose refers to the upper dose limit for a certain indication.
A maximum daily dose expressed in e.g. mg/day is the highest daily dose in milligram which may not be exceeded, even if a higher dose is calculated on weight basis. It may only be used when it is reached or exceeded by a calculation on body weight basis.
In contrast, a maximum daily dose expressed in e.g. mg/kg/day refers to the highest daily dose per kilogram bodyweight.
Age range 0-28 days
The age range 0-28 days includes both, term and preterm infants. For term infants this means from day of birth to 28 days, for preterm infants from day of birth to 28 days corrected age.
Age range 0-2 years
Up to the age of 2 years, it is advisable to use corrected age for former premature infants.
Numerical ranges
The boundaries of numerical ranges are defined as follows: The lower limit value is included, the upper limit value is excluded. For example, an age range of 2-14 years covers the time span from the 2nd birthday to the 14th birthday.
Clinical response
The term ‘clinical response’ in the context of this database includes both the efficacy of a drug and its tolerability/safety.
